Ludhiana, March 7 The Gujranwala Guru Nanak Institute of Management and Technology (GGNIMT) organised a seminar on “Managing stress through yoga” for the MBA and MCA students on Friday. Navtej Singh Johar, an authority on Yoga and a Bharatnatyam dances who has been setting stages all across the country as well as the global afire, was the guest speaker for the day.

Johar explained that Yoga derived its name form the word “Yoke” which meant “to bring together”. He elaborated that Yoga did just that by bringing together the mind, body and the breath. Targeting the present day corporate stress, Johar informed the students that Yoga combined several techniques, used for stress reduction, which could provide the combined benefits of breathing exercises, stretching exercises, fitness programme and meditation practice in one technique.

Johar believed that Yoga was like a daily pill, which, if exercised regularly, helped one to be healthy and wise. He further said that Yoga had a positive effect on the nervous system and aided in lowering heart-beat and blood pressure.

“Every human has the ‘dharma’ to keep his body fit and healthy,” said Johar, who felt that the regular yoga practice created wonderful experiences within the body by surpassing the five compulsive disorders called ‘Kaleshas’.

Dr Madan Gopal Singh, associate professor, Department of English, Satyawati College, Delhi, shared his ideas on the corporate world and expressed the need for introduction of some stress-reducing activities in the curriculum of the post-graduate streams.

G.S. Dua, coordinator, GGNIMT, while addressing the mediapersons said that he firmly believed that Yoga gave a high pay-off for the amount of effort involved.
