Chennai Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said his state would become the "first state in Asia" to provide broadband facility to each and every village, paving the way for a better quality of life for the citizens.

Addressing a 'Gujarat interactive session' in the city at the seventh Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, Modi said: "Gujarat will become the first state in Asia where each and every village will have broadband facility, which will change the quality of life."

However, he did not specify a time frame for the project.

He added that this would help the state government harness EDUSAT and use it to provide long distance education. Even farmers can avail of this facility to update themselves about the latest agriculture-related technology.

Earlier, Modi listed his government's achievements and outlined various development measures undertaken by him.

The CM said his government had undertaken the "major challenge" to convert "drought-prone Gujarat" into a water-sufficient state.
