Pune An 18-year-old girl committed suicide by consuming poison, as she was unable to cope with exam stress. Lalita Kumaji Shivarkar was a resident of Alandi Mhatobachi in Loni. An HSC student, she was studying at Mhatoba Madhyamik Vidyalaya.

According to her relatives, she was good at academics. “I saw her visibly upset on Sunday. Saying her English paper was tough, she was crying all day. I tried to console her that such things happen and one must not be tense,” said Lalita’s brother Nilesh.

He said Lalita consumed poison on Monday morning, when she was alone in the house. Nilesh found her in a semi-conscious state at 11.45 am and rushed her to a dispensary near their house.

Dr Wankhede, who was in charge of the dispensary, asked Nilesh to take Lalita to Noble Hospital in Hadapsar for further treatment. According to emergency medical officer of Noble Hospital Dr Sahebrao Shinde, “Lalita was brought to the hospital at 1.20 pm. She was found dead when the hospital authorities started giving her medical aid. The body was sent to Command Hospital in Wanavdi for postmortem,” he said.

When contacted, police officials at Loni police chowky said, “We cannot give any information now as a case has not been lodged yet.”
