Vadodara Giving a clear-cut view on student leaders who have a criminal background and wish to be nominated in the upcoming Gujarat Youth Congress elections, Congress leaders on Thursday said that every nomination form will undergo a strict scrutiny of Foundation of Advance Management of Election (FAME), headed by Former Chief Election Commissioner J M Lyngdoh.

Manik Tagore, in charge of election matters in the Youth Congress, told Newsline: “The membership is open for all till February 28. However, each nomination for the Youth Congress assembly elections will undergo a strict scrutiny of FAME, which will follow a specific code of conduct and candidates accused with serious offences will be eliminated from the nomination.”

He added that for each Youth Congress assembly level election, there would be 16 members.

While eight members will be office bearers, the other eight will be delegates who would apply for the Lok Sabha elections. Ten posts will be reserved for minorty, women, scheduled castes and scheduled tribes.

The selected delegates and office bearers at the assembly level will elect nominees for Youth Congress Lok Sabha constituency elections. Every elected member of Youth Congress Lok Sabha Constituency will then select state level delegates.

“The process of restructuring Youth Congress is likely to be completed by the year 2010. The state of Tamil Nadu will be covered in the next phase. The elected members will then choose national level members for Youth Congress. Every elected leader will be given professional training and taught performance management,” Tagore said.
