An audience comprising about 6,000 students and family members enjoyed the performances of various Punjabi singers and artists present on the occasion.

The artists who performed on the occasion included Sardool Sikander, Ashok Masti, Inderjeet Nikku, Balbir Boparai, Veer Sukhwant and Ishmeet Singh among others.

Principal Dr Charanjit K Mahal extended a warm welcome to all the guests. She highlighted the contributions of Justice Gurnam Singh in transforming the rural economy of Punjab, making the state the most prosperous in India and a model which other states emulated.

Rich tributes were paid to Justice Gurnam Singh on the occasion. Ajmer Singh Lakhowal, Chairman Punjab Raj Mandi Board and President Bhartiya Kissan Union was the chief guest on occasion.

Addressing a large gathering, Ajmer Singh Lakhowal said that Justice Gurnam Singh was a great son of Punjab who could be credited for fixation of minimum support price of food grains by the Government of India, which greatly contributed in making India self-sufficient in food and making Punjab the richest state in the nation.

Harish Rai Dhanda, Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Punjab, said that the city of Ludhiana owed a lot to Justice Gurnam Singh. He said the establishment of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, Guru Nanak Dev Thermal Plant, Bathinda , Punjab School Education Board and many other Institutions was a lasting tribute to him.

While praising Gurnam Singh’s achievements, Gurcharam Singh Galib, former MP, also pointed fingers at the corrupt politicians and officers. “Politicians and officers are becoming so corrupt that the system is getting crippled. Even the attempt to bring an honest officer like Mukesh Kumar who was brought to Ludhiana as sub-registrar has failed as he was overburdened with work and had to face apathetic attitude of people.
