Basu, who was probing Rabindranath Tagore’s Nobel Prize medallion theft, along with several other important cases, was arrested by the agency’s anti-corruption unit for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from a murder accused.
Following a tip-off, the sleuths arrested the DSP near an electronics shop
in Ultadanga on December 23. He was first produced in the Chief Judicial Magistrate court on December 24, after which, he was taken to Delhi on a transit remand for a hearing in the case at Patiala House court. Since then, Basu had been lodged in Tihar Jail, but later, the court directed the police to produce the accused in the Barasat Additional District Sessions Judge (ADJ) Special Court till January 28.
Saturday being a holiday, the sleuths escorting Basu had to produce him at the Barasat CJM court. In the absence of CJM Sumitra Roy, Joint Magistrate Ratna Biswas held that Basu will be produced in the ADJ court when the court reopens on January 27.
