Junagadh Accused in a land selling case, the former maharani (queen) of the erstwhile Bilkha state, Ullaskumari, was arrested and sent in judicial custody on Tuesday.

Earlier in April 2008, her New-Delhi based brother-in-law, Jaykirtisinh Kameshwarsinh, had lodged a complaint against her and others with the Bilkha police for allegedly selling two plots on fabricated documents.

The complaints were lodged under Sections 406, 420, 465, 467, 471 and 120(B) of the Indian Penal Code. The said plots, no 75 and 76, are located in the station area in Bilkha town and are considered part of the royal property.

Following the investigation on the basis of the complaint, the Bilkha police had arrested Ullaskumari on Sunday and obtained her remand, which came to an end today. After the completion of the remand, the Bilkha town police produced her before the Judicial Magistrate first class court, Junagadh, on Tuesday, which gave her judicial custody and sent her to the Junagadh Jail.

Investigating Officer, Sub-Inspector G M Makawana, said: “The four accused in the land scam have already been arrested. Today, the Maharani has been sent to jail, two other accused are yet to be arrested. They are still at large.”

Makawana said the investigation took almost eight months to gte over. He said two of the absconding accused have been identified and will be arrested soon.

He added that Maharani Ullaskumari has admitted to her role in selling the said plots.

“Ullaskumari has admitted that after the death of her husband Mahendrakumarsinh, she was forced to sell the said property in the absence of a proper source of income,” Makawana said.

According to official sources, Rawat wala, the last ruler of Bilkha state, had gifted four plots to her daughter Bhanukumari. Two among these four plots were sold on fabricated documents.

The entire issue is a mess among members of the royal family, said sources.
