Washington Hospital Center is the largest private hospital in the nation's capital. Its cardiac catheterisation laboratory is one of the busiest in the country. A total of 19,054 cardiac catheterisations were performed in 2006. As many as 1,803 open-heart surgeries and six heart transplants performed in 2006. "The Sadhu Vaswani Mission's Medical Complex – Heart Institute was commissioned in June 2006 as Dada J P Vaswani's dream to have a temple of healing hearts turned to reality. Over 360 cardiac surgeries – coronary artery bypass graft surgery, valve replacement surgery and a wide range of paedriatic cardiac surgeries -- have been performed so far.
While a cardiac surgery would cost Rs 1,00,000 and above, the poor, needy and the economically backward class need to pay only Rs. 25,000 with the Sadhu Vaswani Mission supporting the balance of the cost of the cardiac surgery.
