Chandigarh Even as computer professionals at the first-ever IEEE International Advance Computing Conference at Thapar University seemed upbeat about their future amid the global meltdown, they have called for upgrading technology in pace with the demand. At the conclusion of the two-day seminar, the techies called for technological upgradation at a faster pace to help the common man. M Balakrishnan from IIT Delhi stressed on developing low-power computing, which could help evolve systems that consumed less electricity.

V R Singh, chairman of IEEE Delhi Chapter and a visiting professor at the National Physical Laboratory, felt the IT boom is not likely to bust. “Rather, it will strengthen further. The Indian IT sector is technically sound.” Deepak Garg, a faculty member in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Thapar University, said the long-term prospects of the IT sector are very bright. “In the short-term, there may be salary cuts but not many job cuts,” he said.
