Ahmedabad, January 8 “Theatre needs to voice the socio-political concerns of our time more than ever” was the overriding theme that emerged on the inaugural day of the four-day National Consultation on Theatre and Conflict.

The event has been organised to discuss the gradually declining space of theatre in highlighting social, economic and political concerns of modern society.

Delivering the inaugural address, Hiren Gandhi of Samvedan Cultural Programme, said: “We need to ask ourselves where theatre has been when Nandigram was happening, when Gujarat happened?” Over the next three days, experts will deliberate upon the role of various forms of theatre in highlighting the conflicts in the society.

Theatre stalwarts from across the country will be coming to the city to take part in the consultation. At the end of the consultation, a vision document spelling out the path that the theatre will take in the future, is expected to emerge.
