Mumbai Various malls, cinema halls and restaurants are beefing up security for Valentine’s Day after the recent pub attack in Mangalore.

Major (Retd) Sharmista Debnath, spokesperson for security solutions provider 24 Secure, says, “This year, we have requests from several clients to increase security. We have increased deployment by 15-20 per cent. The extra security would comprise a quick response team and personal security officers who will be in constant communication with each other over wireless. The team members are specifically trained to handle hostile mobs and unarmed combat.”

Sachin Lokre, the chief security officer of PVR, Mulund and Goregaon, said, “We have our usual security but we are ready to bring in extra reinforcements. We do not anticipate anything going wrong, but at the same time we shall be ready to tackle any kind of situation.”

Ravi Runawat, a branch head of Tops Group, said, “As it is, on weekends, our security deployment at malls is more than usual. On February 14, we have briefed our security personnel to be more vigilant and be ready to handle any kind of problem.”
