Dehra As expected, Himachal Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal today doled out sops for all sections of society, including government employees, pensioners and daily wagers, ahead of the ensuing Lok Sabha elections on the occasion of 39th Himachal Day.

Dhumal announced a 10 per cent hike in daily wages and part-time wages benefiting around 28,000 people. The decision would be implemented from March 1 this year and the wages would be Rs 110 a day. He also announced 10 per cent interim relief to state government employees and pensioners from February 1, 2009. He declared that Rs 50 crore more would be given to subsidise essential commodities under PDS and 15,000 more pensioners would be included in the Social Security Pensioners’ list. He doubled the financial aid given under Matri Shakti Bima Yojna for grievous injuries leading to permanent disability to Rs 50,000 and to Rs 1 lakh in case of death.

Other announcements include Rs 25 crore for the improvement of roads in Kangra district, upgradation of Government Civil Hospital, Dehra, Rs. 40 lakh to organise activities to reduce female mortality rate and opening of a National Highway Division at Dehra.

Another important announcement made by him is the relaxation in the Town and Country Planning Act, 2009, allowing residents of various towns to construct their two-and-half storied houses 100 meters beyond proposed townships on the national, state and regional highways and 50 meters beyond main and other district highways, without getting their housing plans approved by the TCP department.

The Chief Minister said that Himachal Pradesh has emerged a role model for rest of the country and claimed that over 80 per cent of the poll promises made by his government had been fulfilled.

The CM honoured Pushpa of Nounghi village in Hamirpur district for winning a gold medal at the Women Sports Festival, Sanjo Devi of Kullu for winning Gold in javelin throw at National Women Sports Meet and Aarju Kumari of Dadahu for winning Gold at the 34th National Sports Meet held in Hamirpur. He also honoured Ankita of the Government PG College, Dharamshala, who had won Best Shooter title and a gold medal at the SAARC Youth Exchange Programme in Sri Lanka, last year.
