Shimla,January 31 Just as farm activities after sowing of Rabi crops in the state are about to pick up, Himachal Pradesh has been pushed into shortage of fertilisers to the tune of nearly 13,000 metric tonnes. To overcome the shortage, the state has sent a reminder to the Union Ministry of Chemical and Fertilisers to make available 7,500 metric tonnes of additional fertiliser on priority basis.

The communication sent to the Centre from Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal’s office says the supply of fertilisers already sent to the state has fallen short.

The communiqué says the demand put forward by the state before the onset of the sowing season was not met with fully by the Centre. The state had demanded 30,500 metric tonnes, against which it was supplied only 17,000 metric tonnes.

The Chief Minister has expressed disappointment on the subject, saying that repeated follow-up of the state’s demand of fertilisers with the Centre has not yielded any results, hampering farming activities in the state.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister has asked the farmers to be patient and has assured them of quality fertiliser at remunerative prices at their doorstep for better yield of crops.
