Chandigarh After a factory employee in Industrial Area, Phase-I died late on Wednesday night following severe stomachache, his neighbours alleged on Thursday that the employee’s death may have resulted from the beating he received from the factory owner.

According to the police, Darshan Singh (60) employed Madan Lal in his screw-manufacturing factory last month.

Darshan told the police that Madan was feeling uncomfortable in the evening.

“I asked my worker to take him home. The worker dropped Madan and returned,” he told the police.

Lal’s health deteriorated last night and he was rushed to the General Multi-Specialty Hospital, Sector 16, where he later died.

The colony dwellers alleged that Lal was beaten up by Darshan and left in his shack without any medical attention.

The workers of the factory, however, came out in support of Darshan and refuted the allegations.

Darshan, meanwhile, claimed he was “too old to beat anybody”.

Station House Officer of the Industrial Area police station said: “The family of the deceased, in Uttar Pradesh, has been informed. We will get the postmortem conducted tomorrow and take necessary action thereafter,” he added.
