Shri Dhar stood second in the 600m race while the second spot in the 800m race was occupied by Shiva.
The Results:
600m race: 1st Horse: Fairdeal (Rider: M Islam, Owner: Rais), 2nd Shri Dhar (M Salim; Latif), 3rd Meri Begum (Jamil);
800m race: 1st Colvin (M Islam; Latif), 2nd Shiva (Neeraj, M Bhandari), 3rd Vijay Path (Shafique; Shafique).
UP retain hockey title
Defending champions Uttar Pradesh defeated Orissa 5-1 in the final to retain the winner’s trophy in the Balrampur Chini All India KD Singh ‘Babu’ Sub-Junior Hockey Tournament that came to a close at Dhyanchand astro-turf stadium here on Saturday.
UP suceeded in breaking the ice in the fourth minute. Thereafter, UP forward Manish Rajbhar went all out to score goals. He blasted four goals which included a hat-trick to put UP into a strong 5-0 lead.
The consolation goal on behalf of the visitors was netted by Arun Dung Dung in the 63rd minute of the play.
In the match for the third place held between last year’s runners-up Cheema Academy and Uttar Pradesh ‘Blue’, the former emerged winners by 4-0.
The winning team of UP became richer by Rs 20,000 while Orissa bagged a sum of Rs 15,000. The special prizes were won by UP’s Shubham Kakran (`Best Goalkeeper), Orissa’s Neeraj Minz (`Best Fullback), Cheema Academy’s Pradeep Singh (Best half-back) and UP’s Manish Rajbhar (Best Forward).
The tournament was organised by the KD Singh ‘Babu’ Memorial Society.
