Acting on a tip-off, sleuths from the Crime Branch intercepted two youths traveling on a motorcycle near Alkapuri Bridge at Ashwani Kumar Road in Varachha on Thursday. The police first questioned them about the papers of the vehicle, and when they failed to give satisfactory answers, the officers frisked them and recovered 77 Rs 1000 and 51 Rs 500 notes, all fake.
The two were arrested on the spot and later identified as Sanjay Rupara, a resident of Bhaktinagar society, Varachha, and Bipin Sawani, a resident of Vijay Nagar Society, Varachha.
Upon interrogation, the two revealed they had received the notes from Dinesh Patel and Jaymin Patel, both residents of Kalidas Society in Chhaprabhata area.
The police raided a house in Kalidasnagar on Thursday night and arrested Dinesh and Jaymin, and recovered 30 counterfeit notes of Rs. 1000 denomination. They also seized a scanner and a colour photocopy machine from the house.
Crime Branch inspector P M Parmar said, “Sanjay and Bipin, two diamond polishers in a private firm in Varachha, were on their way to sell the fake notes to the face value of Rs. 1 lakh to a person for Rs. 20,000, when they were arrested.
We have learnt that they had made a trip to Jamnagar in this connection. We will investigate the matter further and arrest those involved in this case.”
