Vadodara Vadodara Detection of Crime Branch officers arrested Shaileja Patel and Hemant Bhatt on Monday for their role in the fake stamp paper case. Police officers, while confirming the arrests on Tuesday, said she has been remanded in judicial custody for four days till February 21.

“Patel was arrested from her residence on Monday, when she had come home; Bhatt surrendered in the DCB police station,” said DCB officer R B Devda.

Patel and Anil Panat, who were arrested on February 16, ran the racket, while Bhatt was responsible for printing fake letterheads, stamp paper and even government documents.

“We seized around 124 such documents that were made by Bhatt,” a police officer said.

On December 13, DCB raided the office of Shaileja Patel and Anil Panat and recovered a large stash of fake Regional Transport Office registration documents, fake letterheads and stamps of various departments including Vadodara Municipal Corporation, M S University and banks.

DCB officials estimated that the scam could reach up to lakhs, as there were several fake stamp papers of Rs 1,500 denomination. The scam came to light after a truck driver was arrested by the DCB.
