While looking for a groom for their daughter, parents of Anuradha Sahay zeroed in on a family in Jaipur on a matrimonial website.
Phone calls were exchanged and questions were asked. After inquiring about the ‘boy’s background’ to their satisfaction, the girl’s family invited them for lunch at their house in Noida. But before that could happen, the family was duped of Rs 20,000.
“In the afternoon we got a call from them that their car had met with an accident and the victim was demanding Rs 20,000,” the family has said in the complaint lodged at the Sector 20 police station. “They asked us to deposit the money in an account of the Kotak Mahindra Bank, which they said was their driver’s account.”
However, once the family deposited the money in the Kotak Mahindra bank in Sector 17, the three men coming for lunch vanished. “We waited, but even their contact numbers ceased to exist,” the complaint says.
The family has named three persons in the complaint — Manav Srivastava, A N Srivastava and Sanjeev Saxena.
The Noida police has registered a case in the matter and further investigation are on.
