Vadodara After the death of Ehsan Patel, who was booked under the Terrorist And Disruptive Activities (TADA) Act, his family is blaming the jail authorities for it. The postmortem is yet to be conducted on the deceased.

On Monday, as the family members of the deceased waited at the SSG Hospital for the postmortem to start, they claimed that misbehaviour and delay in treatment has been the cause of Patel’s death.

“Two from our family had visited him last Tuesday when he complained of chest pain. He had said that he was suffering from the pain for the last 10 days and had asked for a medical check up, which was refused by the jailor,” said Zubeda Patel, mother of the deceased.

The same day, Patel had also passed on a letter to his wife pointing out his medical problem and the attitude of the jail authorities. “He had not suffered from any kind of illness earlier; and while no proper medical explanation has been given to us as yet, death due to chest pain is somewhat strange. We demand an inquiry into the matter,” said Zulekha Patel, wife of the deceased.

The jail authorities, meanwhile, dismissed the allegation. “I have not been informed of any such delay in medication. He had complained of chest pain when the inmates were playing cricket on Sunday. He was immediately rushed to the hospital. It could be a case of heart attack. The family’s complaint is not justified,” said R C Adroja, Assistant Superintendent, Vadodara Central Jail.
