Roshan had suffered a brain hemorrhage on January 4. “He received a phone call intimating him about his brother-in-law’s death, after which, he got a brain stroke. He was then rushed to Hoshiarpur where doctors referred him to PGI after conducting a CT scan,” said Abdul Kareem, a cousin of the deceased.
The family has alleged that though they reached PGI on January 5, they were kept shuttling from one doctor to another, but no bed was made available for him.
The PGI authorities, meanwhile, said the patient’s condition was very critical, due to which he died.
Manju Wadwalkar, PGI spokesperson, while speaking to Newsline, said: “There is a shortage of beds in the ICU as we there are six beds in the neurosurgical ward and 11 in the general ward. In this case, however, the family was clearly told about profuse bleeding and that chances of survival were bleak. The PGI authorities have not initiated any formal inquiry into the matter but will look into the case on Monday. We have not received any written complaint from the family till now.”
