New Delhi The family of a seventh semester student who died of dengue while studying at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) is all set to drag the institute to court over medical negligence.

Kamal Raj Kiran (22) died of Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever (DHF) on September 27, 2006 and the family has accused the AIIMS authorities of gross negligence. The family has approached the Delhi Consumer Commission, seeking a compensation of Rs 96 lakh. The commission has now asked the AIIMS director to respond to the petition by January 7.

The family maintains that doctors should not have sent their son back after seeing his condition, which warranted immediate care. The hospital administration allotted him a bed after a delay of 10 hours. He died three days later, the family said.
