Fatehgarh Sahib, February 22 Fatehgarh Sahib police have registered a case under Section 174 of the CrPC following the recovery of the body of 40-year-old farmer Narinder Singh, a resident of Talania village of the district. According to cops, the farmer was missing for the past few days and his body was recovered from a canal near Sarai Banjara village in Rajpura.

Family members said the deceased was under mental stress following loss in agriculture and also due to mounting debt. “He had borrowed about Rs 1 lakh from the cooperative society to rear buffaloes, but he was unable to pay the loan amount,” said relatives.

Cops said the victim had a small piece of land, but was unable to make both ends meet and took the loan to rear buffaloes. “He was not in good mental condition following the loan and the debt installments despite the fact that the cooperative society never harassed the farmer for loan repayment,” said the cops, after recording the statement of the deceased’s relatives.
