Chandigarh A number of farmers from various villages, adjoining the city, organised a rally on Saturday to air their grievances against the Administration and demand reforms in the policies. Organised under the aegis of the Chandigarh Sanjha Morcha, the rally at village Khuda Jassu was addressed by panches and sarpanches of various villages.

The farmers asserted their point with powerful banners reading, ‘Rodrigues Hatao, Kisan Bachao’ and ‘Stop forcible acquisition’ among others. The farmers also demanded for the revival of the post of Chief Administrator and the abolition of the UT Administrator.

President of Pind Bachao Committee, Angrez Singh, said: “The Administration and politicians have not treated the villagers fairly. While incentives are being offered to migrants who have illegally set up their hutments, the villagers are being mistreated.” He added, “The prices given by the Administration for acquiring the land is a pittance.”

“The lal dora needs to be extended. This has not been modified over the years even though the population has increased,” said the sarpanch of Kaimbwala Madan Lal.

President of the Chandigarh Sanjha Morcha Brig K S Kahlon (Retd) said the Administration has not implemented the National Rehabilitation andResettlement Policy, 2007. The farmers will hold another rally in Khuda Alisher on March 14.
