Lucknow The Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CIMAP) organised the CIM-Utsav to bring the medicinal plant growers and buyers on a single platform, at its campus on Saturday.

A farmer’s fair was also organised, where farmers were updated about the new varieties and techniques in the field of aromatic and medicinal plants.

Dr AK Singh, Head, Technology & Business Development said the utsav has been organised to give a platform to the farmers who are growing medicinal and aromatic plants, women groups who are making products from these flowers and the manufacturers.

“There is a huge market for produce of the medicinal and aromatic plants like the oil, essence and powder. Through these fairs, we help the farmers meet the buyers and get the best price for their produce,” he said.

Singh added that the market for medicinal plants is quite high but the people need to be connected.

On this occasion, several buyers from different parts of the country also came for the fair. These included SC Varshney from Siva Essential oils Badaun in Uttar Pradesh, Shailendra Jain of Shaivi Industries Lucknow and Ramakant Harlaka of Nishant Aromas Mumbai. Nishant Harlaka praised the quality of the farming produce and said that it is important that the buyers meet the farmers directly. This will not just help them get the best varieties, but will also help in continued associations.

Women farmer groups from Rae Bareli, Barabanki, Sitapur and Sultanpur districts were also present on the occasion. Women from different groups, who have been trained to make agarbattis from flower powder and rose water as a part of different projects of CIMAP also met the herbal cosmetics producers.
