The incident occured on Friday night between 10 pm and 7.30 am.
According to the complaint lodged at Kishanwadi police station by Tejas Patel, the trustee of the college, the fee money of the three colleges had been collected on the same day and the amount had been kept in the locker of the administrative office.
"Since the fee collection went on till 2 pm on Friday, the amount could not be deposited in the bank on the same day," said investigating officer PI J S Purohit.
The college authorities had earlier lodged a theft complaint for Rs 3,45,839, which comprised the amount collected from the three colleges.
"The fee of the three colleges under Pioneer Medical colleges had been deposited here. But the actual amount stolen was the fee of only one college as the fee collected from other colleges had been stacked in the inner lockers of the cupboard, which were not broken," said Purohit.
Incidentally, while the college has security checks at the three gates, the window of the administrative office was broken, giving easy access to the thieves.
Pointing to one of the causes behind the theft, Purohit said, "The area around the college campus is barren as there is some construction work going on near the premises."
