Confirming the news, Vice-Chancellor Jaspal Singh, said: “I want Punjabi University to be known for the first-of-its kind Media Centre and Film City that we are going to build at a cost of Rs 4 crore. The centre is scheduled for completion in the next 15 months, and tenders for this have already been floated,” he said.
The vice-chancellor was inaugurating a workshop on ‘Film Production and Appreciation’, organised by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication for its correspondence students. The workshop, being conducted by established film maker G S Chani, is aimed at exposing students to the personal gains and experiences of renowned film makers, said Gurmeet Maan, head of Department, Journalism and Mass Communication.
Chani, who is a visiting faculty at the University of Michigan, Toronto, Cambridge, Boston and FTII, Pune, rated the department’s new studio as “one of the very best in a government university in the country”.
Having shot over 50 documentary and short films of different genres, Chani gave valuable tips to students besides sharing his experiences in film making.
