Jalandhar, February 7 The work of cleaning the highly-polluted rivulet Kali Bein has started getting recognition at the international level now. From earning praise from former president of India A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, who frequently mentioned the project in his speeches, now, a documentary film made on the work of Kali Bein has been selected for the Vibgyor International Film Festival to be held in Kerala from February 13 to 17. The 62-minute documentary has been selected in the non-fiction category.

Times Image Production has produced the movie, titled “Black River”, while Surinder Mannan is the producer-director.

Mannan, while talking to The Indian Express, said he has highlighted Kali Bein’s importance for the villages and towns situated on its bank and how it has been converted into a polluted nullah by the people themselves.

“The theme of the documentary is not only to depict the historical importance of the Kali Bein but also its socio-economic and cultural impact on the life of people,” he said.

He has also focused on Baba Balbir Singh Seechewal, who started the project of cleaning the Bein seven years back.
