Kolkata The state Election Commission on Wednesday published the final list of the 47 reserved wards of Kolkata Municipal Corporation where elections are due in May.

Reservation of wards for women and SC/ST candidates has allegedly affected the electoral prospects of several heavyweight Trinamool and Congress leaders.

Wards of leaders like former mayor Subrata Mukherjee of the Congress, Leader of Opposition Javed Ahmed Khan, Congress leader Pradip Ghosh, Trinamool Congress leaders Sobhan Chatterjee, Aroop Biswas, Ratna Sur and Anup Chatterjee have been declared reserved for women.

“The reservation list has been prepared politically. It is a conspiracy to hamper the electoral prospect of Congress-Trinamool alliance. According to the procedure, my ward does not come under the reservation list but has been included in the list deliberately. If my party does not give me another ward, then I will not be able to contest,” said Javed Ahmed Khan.

The State Election Commission will prepare and publish the draft voter list by February 15. The final electoral roll will be published on April 5.
