Varsity officials are in the last phase of incorporating changes in the auditorium to avoid a similar incident that had sparked a controversy a month ago. The city’s Fire department carried out an inspection of the Fire Hydrant System at the auditorium on Tuesday.
A network of water supply has been installed in the auditorium along with smoke detectors interlocked with exhaust fans to combat any fire-like situation in the hall.
The water supply in the process will be drawn from a well located behind the auditorium. According to university officials, the system will cost nearly Rs 6 lakh.
Moreover, the space outside the auditorium has been widened to facilitate free and unhampered entry of the fire brigade. Among other infrastructural changes, the entry and exit points of the auditorium have been altered to avoid chaos at one particular area.
While the auditorium authorities will put a strict check on the overcrowding in the hall, not more than 600 students will be allowed inside.
Besides, a new parking lot is being constructed in front of the auditorium. “The vehicles are generally parked haphazardly around the auditorium premises. We are devising ways to lessen the over crowding scenario within and around the hall,” said N K Ojha, University Engineer.
Although the auditorium still awaits a no-objection certificate from the Fire department, university officials feel that the hall will be opened by March 7.
