After days of protest by the teachers’ fraternity, Ludhiana District Education Officer (Secondary) Sudesh Bajaj has been transferred to the post of Principal, Government Senior Secondary School Choohad-Chak, Moga district.

According to an order issued by Punjab Government Secretary K B S Sidhu: “Sudesh Bajaj has been transferred on administrative grounds. Present Ludhiana District Education Office (Elementary) Amarjeet Kaur will take her place. Harpal Kaur Khatra, principal of Government Senior Secondary School, Karamsar, has been transferred as Ludhiana District Education

Officer (Elementary).”

Both Amarjeet Kaur and Harpal Kaur Khatra joined duty around 4 pm today. But apparently Bajaj herself did not know about the transfer. She said: “I am doing my work properly. I do not find any reason for the transfer as I have not done anything wrong.”

Teachers, meanwhile, have welcomed the decision. Baldev Singh Mangar, president, Government Teachers’ Union, said: “It is good for the District Education department.” Members of the Democratic Teachers’ Front were seen rejoicing.

Bhajan Singh, a member of the association, said: “We are happy that we succeeded in our struggle. The step will go a long way in reviving a good educational atmosphere in the district. We will continue to pursue the case of Bajaj’s wrongdoings with the state government.”
