Recently, Sanjay Upadhyay, a resident of Shastrinagar, Yerawada fractured his right leg owing to the uneven jogging track. The Indian Express carried a report about the condition of the park on January 22. After that, the garden department of the Pune Municipal Corporation immediately swung into action. Deputy city engineer Vijay Shinde personally took the initiative to gear up the work under the guidance of Y S Khaire, garden superintendent, PMC. “We are working on re-carpeting of the jogging track and toilets, which were the main concerns for citizens. Around Rs 13.25 lakh has been spent on this work. It will be completed in 10 days,” he said.
Dhairyasheel Vandekar, who had written a letter to the PMC commissioner Praveensinh Pardeshi regarding the issue, also appreciated the efforts. “The work is going on nicely, but it should be completed within the deadline. There is also concern about the quality of water to be used for watering the trees. Untreated, polluted water can kill the trees. The officials should also take note of this,” he said.
