Pune After the high drama over the standing committee chairmanship and his powers, all the powers of the standing committee chairman of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) were restored on Shiv Sena’s Shyam Deshpande on Tuesday. The committee was also given a deadline to present the annual budget for the year 2009-10. However, Congress decided to move against this decision in the court.

Last week, the controversy over the Pune Pattern came to an end and Shiv Sena managed to keep its ‘dignified’ position following a meeting between Shiv Sena office bearers and District Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar.

This was after the Shiv Sena had even threatened to break off its ties with the NCP, which constitute the Pune Pattern of alliance.

On Tuesday, the proposal to give all the budgetary powers to Bhosale was put in the freezer and the proposal to restore Deshpande’s powers was tabled by NCP corporator Sandeep Ladkat. However, Congress opposed this move saying it was not legal to do so. Following this opposition, voting was conducted and NCP, BJP and Shiv Sena voted in its favour, while Congress lost out with only five votes.

The standing committee was also given an approval to table the proposal by February 20 and that the copy of the budget to be sent to the corporators to be posted by February 27.

Congress leader Aba Bagul said, “This decision to give an extension to tabling the budget would be challenged in the court.”

Meanwhile, during the standing committee meeting, Bagul allegedly tried to manhandle the municipal secretary Sunil Parkhi. Bagul also pushed the microphone on him.

Parkhi reportedly sustained minor injuries and was admitted to a hospital. He was later discharged.
