The current trend for your living spaces suggests bringing in a coordinated look

Thought professionals are to give you that perfectly matched look? Not really. When it comes to furnishings, brands and designers get together to give you a look that promises a lived-in feel and an assemblage that’s put together with precision, that too without any effort. At Floors & Furnishings, manager Rajan Sankalp throws open coordinates, that’s what they call a complete package of sofa linen, sheers, curtains, wall papers et al. The coordinates though bring in a play of different fabrics look impeccable as a setting, but as fabrics alone do not gel well. “That’s the reason we get in designers to provide customized room sets under one roof. They make sure that the complete arrangement is in harmony but yet does not give an overdose of a particular element,” Sankalp tells us. Here, those in the domestic range under their own banner are the tops. “Priced between Rs 300 and Rs 1,500 per sq metre, coordinates save a lot of time and effort that we otherwise waste collecting pieces from different places,” he says.

Under Designer’s Guild, an international home and lifestyle company that dominates stores and many city homes, the collection can vary anywhere in the range of Rs 2,000 and Rs 15,000 per sq metre. Though at Ankit Gupta’s house in Sector 28, a part of Jasper Conran collection rules. The components are inspired from classic suiting and stylish designs like flannel, pinstripe, birds-eye spot and windowpane check in a restrained and elegant colour palette mark parts of the room. “Just like my clothes, my room too illustrates my personality and taste. It’s carefree, yet classy,” he points out at the cushion covers and crockery that too accentuates coordinated designs.

“Gone are the days when one went bed-sheet hunting. Now they come as a package with the furnishings,” chips in Shweta Nangia, an interior designer, as she switches on her laptops and gives us a low-down on the kind of coordinates that rule the world of design. There are those in bold contrasting colours, different fabrics, florals and geometric prints and those in back and white that form a monochromatic hue. “Those in the last category have to be made appealing by throwing in chic accessories,” Nangia feels that reds and oranges are safe bets to go with black and white tones.

Interestingly, coordinate collections by designers like Nya-Nordiska, Casamance and Elitis are now available in Chandigarh. Richa Sharma, a first year interior design student lists out Home Spell, Jain Furnishings and Krishna Carpets as places where you can bag them. “From embroidery to prints, cotton to silk and curtain rods to rugs, they take care of just about everything,” smiles Sharma. Why, Rosebys in Sector 8 even houses bath coordinates!
