New Delhi, January 31 Parents chasing pre-school seats will get some respite on Friday, when a large number of schools release their first list of successful applicants. For better or worse, many parents will know where they stand once the lists come up.

Till Thursday, schools were busy finalising their shortlists.

“The process was very difficult. Too many applications, too few seats,” said Vandana Puri, principal of Salwan Public School, Rajendra Nagar.

Springdales School (Dhaula Kuan, Pusa Road), Tagore International School (East of Kailash, Vasant Vihar), Bloom Public School (Vasant Kunj) and Heritage are among the schools to come out with the list on Friday. The announcement will be made either on school boards or on websites, or both.

The Education department is, meanwhile, stepping up its role in the nursery admissions process. On Thursday, Education Minister Arvinder Singh told all deputy directors of education to strictly maintain the grievances cells set up for parents at the start of the admission season.

Singh told officials to visit schools and check that they are conforming to their declared admissions criteria.

Deputy directors are available in their offices from 9 to 10 am, Monday to Friday, to investigate parents’ complaints relating to pre-school or pre-primary admissions.
