Corporation officials said power generation at three 180-mw units stopped immediately after the fire, although it was restored in one of the 60-mw units. This led to a shortfall of 100-150 mw during the day followed by a shortfall of peak evening around of 300-350 mw in the peak evening hours, officials said.
The peak demand normally varies between 1400-1700 mw.
CESC, which presently generates 1747 mw, buys 250-400 mw from the West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd in order to feed its area covering 567 sqkms with 1.10 crore consumers.
CESC officials said it imported 353 mw from the state distribution company, although they did not make it clear whether it will meet the peak demand. The supply situation, however, is expected to be normal within a day or two, officials said.
