In the first incident, a fire broke out at a spinning unit, Shakti Spinners, early on Thursday morning at Rahon Road. Three fire engines were rushed to the spot, and the fire took around 6 hours to extinguish.
The cause of the fire, which gutted five spinning machines and yarn stored in the unit, is not yet known. The unit’s owner, Sanjay Kumar, claimed to have incurred losses amounting to crores of rupees.
Sources said the fire spread fast because of the yarn, which is a petroleum byproduct. The factory was closed at the time the fire broke out and no worker was inside the unit.
In the second incident, a motorcycle caught fire on Jagraon Bridge around 1.30 am. Passersby helped the biker extinguish the fire.
An empty kiosk on Gill Road also caught fire on Wednesday night. It was, however, extinguished within a few minutes.
