Fire breaks out in hardware shop

Mumbai, January 3 A fire broke out in a hardware shop on the ground floor in Mittal Industrial Estate on Andheri-Kurla road on Thursday morning. No casualties or injuries were reported in the accident.

Joint Chief Fire Officer, V H Naik, said, “The Marol fire station received a call at 9.40 am informing about the fire in the shop, Cartirdge World, located on the ground floor in the two-storeyed building. We immediately sent eight fire brigade vehicles and four water tankers to the spot. When we reached the spot, the surrounding area was engulfed with smoke. We evacuated all the floors of the building. The fire was extinguished by 10 45.” He added, “The cause of fire is not known. Investigations are still on.”

Hemant, a shopkeeper, said, “Many of our printers, computers and cartridges were completely burnt. At this point, I cannot quote the amount of loss.”

According to Shailesh Jain, a branch manager of HDFC bank which is adjacent to the shop, he saw smoke emerging out of the shop shortly after he came to work at 8 45 am. “I saw the smoke at around 9 15 am. The shopkeeper rushed out of the shop and then we informed the fire brigade,” he said.

Mittal Industrial Estate houses several offices including that of an estate consultant, a travel agency and a steel manufacturer.
