Pune, January 3 The Haveli police have booked Amod Vinayak Modak, owner of ASA Engineering Plast Company at Nandegaon, for neglecting the precautionary safety measures, which led to the explosion of chemicals at its workshop on Tuesday afternoon. Two workers at the workshop were killed on the spot, while one more worker Dharmendra Yadav succumbed at Sassoon Hospital on Wednesday. Three more workers injured in the mishap received over 80 per cent burns. The police said that their condition was critical.

District Superintendent of Police Vishwas Nangre Patil said that Modak started the company about two and a half years ago, but failed to take necessary precautionary measures despite holding a diploma in chemical engineering. “Modak was well aware that chemicals at his workshop, particularly the polyester resin, methyl ethyl ketone peroxide and cobalt octane could cause an explosion when mixed,” Patil said.
