Gurmohan Singh, ex-secretary, KMC, said M/s REI Agro Limited, Mohali, had procured a license from KMC to start business in Mohali, but did not pay any returns, market fee or RDF. Singh, who was then KMC Secretary, undertook an assessment of the firm’s transactions during its first year, where he found that the firm had evaded payment of Rs 67,996 as market fee and a similar amount as RDF, after which, he had imposed a penalty of Rs 2.04 lakh. Singh, who was later shifted as Secretary of the Kurali Market Committee, said the firm deposited the levy with penalty and interest to clear the dues on Tuesday.
