Phillaur This police officer has many firsts to his credit. He is the first Sikh to join the Australian police force and also the first Indian recipient of the Australian Bravery Decoration award. Dr Albel Singh Kang, on a visit to Punjab Police Academy (PPA) in Phillaur on Friday, interacted with R S Gill, DGP-cum-Director of PPA and other officers of the Academy on various issues of common interest.

A presentation on the role and importance of international police partnership programmes was made by Senior Deputy Director and Dean of the Academy, Dr D J Singh.

Dr Kang was quite impressed to see the standards and professional quality of the police education, research and training inputs being provided at PPA.

In his address to the academy officers and trainees, he said that the training given at PPA is an integrated one, whereas the police training in Australia is imparted separately for specific roles in the police force.

He further said that the best solution to most of the international problems is a collaborative police programme. He said that the best feature of the training in Phillaur was the focus on higher academic degree-oriented programmes being imparted to the police personnel.

R S Gill also presented the Academy decoration memento to the first Australian Sikh police officer.
