Pune, February 6 In the first ever ward sabha, organised by the Pune Municipal Corporation, the residents of Nagpur chawl ward passed five resolutions, including reconstruction of buildings of Pune Housing Area Board and various work in their area.

“The first ever ward sabha in PMC jurisdiction was conducted in Nagpur chawl ward. The constitution has empowered citizens to pass resolution related to their area in the ward sabha while making it mandatory for civic bodies to implement them,” Corporator Siddharth Dhende said.

Dhende said the officers from various PMC departments were present at the meeting and it is legally binding on them to execute the resolutions. He said “the ward sabha passed a resolution seeking reconstruction of buildings built by Pune Housing Area Board some 25-30 years ago. Now, the board and PMC should coordinate and reconstruct the buildings that were built in 1985.” A resolution was passed for charging the stamp duty existed in 1985 on the residents of the buildings to be reconstructed now.

Similarly, the ward sabha urged the PMC not to include Nagpur chawl colony in the slum rehabilitation authority scheme.

Another resolution was passed demanding the construction of a water tank to tackle insufficient water supply. The sabha asked the PMC to make sufficient provision in the budget.

The ward sabha also passed resolution to increase frequency of buses and as the present public transport service is insufficient for the area.
