The Delhi golfer, a multiple order of merit winner on the domestic circuit, will travel to Pattaya, Thailand to take part in the final stage of the Asian Tour qualifying school this week.
Ashok, who has been sponsored by real estate major DLF for many years for his domestic travels, has now managed to convince them to sponsor him for international travel.
“I’ll be leaving for Pattaya on the ninth of January for the final stage of the qualifying school from January 13 to 17,” Ashok told Sportline on Wednesday. “I’d had to miss out on some months of competitive golf because of my injury, but I’m feeling confident about my game now so this is the right time.”
The 25-year-old had to undergo surgery in November after for an abscess in his right leg and missed out on much of the latter part of the PGTI season.
“I first got the abscess last year, just before the India Open, but couldn’t take a sufficient break last season. Now it recurred, so I thought it was best to get it operated upon. It’s completely healed now,” Ashok said.
Ashok, who managed a sixth place on the order of merit despite the missed events, has also chalked out big plans for the season after. “A year of Asian Tour this season, and next year I plan to hit the PGA Tour qualifying. Europe is a little too cold for me, but I’ll hope to qualify for the PGA Tour for the season after,” Ashok said.
