Five city cops selected for President’s police medal

Pune Police inspector Ramchandra Shivaji Jadhav (crime branch), deputy superintendent Ranjit Pandurang Abhyankar(railway police), inspector Vijaykumar Vasantrao Palsule (traffic police), assistant sub inspector Bhagwan Hande (state reserve police force), and police inspector Suhas Madhukar Nadgauda of Bund Garden police station from the city are among the 33 policemen from the state selected for the President’s police medal for their distinguished service.

Jadhav, an officer of the 1988 batch has already received President’s bravery award, the Director General of Police’s Insignia award and a total of 330 medals for crime detection during his 21 years of service.

Abhyankar, an officer from the 1975 batch has also received around 364 medals and was also part of the special team for cracking down on the activities of the Balu Andhekar gang and Pramod Malvadkar from 1977 to 1986.

A 1988 batch officer, Palsule’s service during the workers’ strike in Pimpri Chinchwad Industrial Township in 1989 has been widely appreciated. The huge number of cases undertook by his gained him popularity.

It was the controversial ‘Bal Hatyakand’ case in the year 1996 to 2001 that made Nadgauda, an officer of the 1988 batch made popular. He has received 156 awards, including the Director General of Police’s Insignia award in 2007, in his career spanning 20 years.
