Vadodara Five persons, including two women and two children, were killed when a truck and a tempo carrying devotees turned turtle on a dilapidated road connecting a temple to Gath village in Shehra Taluka. The Panchmahals police said the dead count could rise as the accident happened at 11.30 am on Sunday. This is the fifth accident on the same road in the last two months.

According to the police, the two vehicles, carrying at least 100 pilgrims, were coming from Pagla Mata Mandir in Gath village and were on their way to Shehra.

J T Rana, Sub-Inspector, Kothamba police station, said the accident took place because of bad roads in the area. “This is the fifth accident in this area,” Rana said. He added that at least 70-80 people, who were injured in the mishap, were taken to Godhra Civil Hospital, while the critical cases have been referred to SSG Hospital in Vadodara.

“Most of the pilgrims are from Nada village, who usually come for the annual ritual of head tonsure (mundan) in the Pagla Mata Mandir,” Rana said.

The deceased have been identified as Vikram Patelia (24) and Magan Patelia (14) from Nada village, Nayna Dabhi (23), Rita Khant (5) and Manish Dabhi (11) from Shehra.
