A 16-year-old girl, who was to appear for the board exams starting from next month, hanged herself this afternoon at her Mandawali residence in east Delhi, police said.
Varsha Kumar was found hanging in her room by her mother after she had returned from school after getting her roll number (admit card) for the boards. No suicide note was found, police said.
Family members told police that Varsha, a student of Rajkiya Kanya Vidyalaya in East Vinod Nagar, was good in studies and that she had passed with distinction in most pre-board exams. Police suspect increasing competition might have led to Varsha’s suicide.
Varsha’s father, Surender Kumar, is an Assistant Engineer with MTNL while her two elder brothers work in private companies.
In another incident, the 19-year-old daughter of journalist hanged herself in Gulmohar Park this morning, police said. Priyanka Bhardwaj, a second year B Com (Hons) student in Venkateshwara College in south Delhi, hanged herself at around 11.30 pm in the bedroom of her house in A Block, police said. No suicide note was found.
Her father, Rajender Bhardwaj, is the deputy editor of a daily.
In yet another incident, a 32-year-old man was found hanging from the ceiling at his house in Sultanpuri this morning, police said.
According to police, Ajay Kumar (32) was depressed as he was unemployed because of which unable to find a suitable match for himself. No suicide note was, however, found.
His room was locked from inside, his brother told police. His body was found hanging from the ceiling fan when the door was broken open.
A mentally unstable woman doused herself in kerosene and set herself on fire in in Khajoori Khas, north-east district police said. Meera Kumari (35) was declared dead in Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital. Her husband works in a private company and the couple has four kids.
A 52-year-old man was declared dead at Babu Jagjeevan Ram Hospital last night after he consumed poison at his house in Bawana. No suicide note was found on deceased Chanakya, west district police said.
