According to police, the victim, Shashi Kant Mishra, was returning to his house in Ghaziabad after closing his shop in Laxmi Nagar.
On his way, Mishra, a distributor of Nakshatra, Sangini, Armi and True jewellery, stopped at Telco T-point to attend to nature’s call when two persons jumped on him and robbed his Innova car, which had designer jewellery valued at Rs 1.5 crore and cheques amounting to Rs 40 lakh.
Police said Mishra, who was also stabbed during the robbery, was admitted to Dr Hedgewar Hospital at Karkardooma.
“A special police team visited the robbery spot and studied the modus operandi of the incident. They went through the record of criminals with a similar modus operandi and zeroed in on Sanjay alias Chunnu, a convict in vehicle robbery cases, and Mohammed Yaseem. Sanjay was released just recently,” ACP Satyendra Garg said.
Police said Sanjay was arrested from Kalyanpuri, after which a slum in Kalyanpuri was raided. Sanjay’s mother, Jagwanti, and one Mohammed Idris were arrested along with some robbed jewellery.
During interrogation, Sanjay told police he robbed Mishra with Yaseem. “Sanjay and Yaseem were on the lookout for possible victims that day when they saw Mishra getting out of his car at Kalyanpuri,” Satyendera Garg said.
Police said the duo sold part of the jewellery for Rs one lakh to a jeweller, Kaushlendra Verma, in Khodha Colony, Ghaziabad.
The duo later realised the jewellery’s worth and were looking for a jeweller to sell it. Yaseem left for Kokata in search of a buyer and was arrested there, police said.
