Kolkata The CPM state committee also decided to field ‘young’ candidates in the upcoming municipal elections and the crucial State Assembly elections scheduled next year. CPM state committee secretary Biman Bose said the five new entrants to the state committee are all ‘young’.

These include: Robin Deb, former chief whip in the State Assembly, Dipak Sarkar, party leader from the Maoist-infested West Midnapore district, Sreedip Bhattacharjee, CPM’s Howrah district secretary, Shyamoli Gupta who is also a party central committee member and Nripen Chowdhury, leader from Murshidabad district.

“They are all below 60 and some are around 50. They are far younger than I am,” said Bose. With the inclusion of these five members, the total strength of the party in the secretariat now stands at 18.
