Five-year-old tiger dead

Pune, January 1 A Five-Year-Old tiger, Doda, one of the main attractions of the PMC-run Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park at Katraj died on Tuesday morning after prolonged illness.

Doda was one month old when it was brought to the zoo in September 2002. The forest department had found Doda in Sawantwadi after it got separated from the mother. It was physically weak from the beginning and was unable to digest the meat provided. However, the health of Doda started detiorating from last one year and was evident through frequent indigestion, PMC press statement said.

The zoo officials have been providing boiled flesh to the tiger from last one year and carried out regular blood tests.

Under the supervision of experts, the veterinary officers at the zoo provided best medication to the tiger.

The tiger lost weight in the last few months due to illness and was not responding to the medication and breathed its last on Tuesday.
