Mohali A day after approaching the Punjab State Human Rights Commission (PSHRC), Anuradha Bali alias Fiza on Friday joined the Mohali police investigation into the criminal complaint she lodged against her “runaway” husband Chand Mohammad.

Accompanied by her counsels — Rohit Mahajan and Arvind Thakur, the former assistant advocate general of Haryana reached Superintendent of Police (City) Varinder Pal Singh’s office in Phase I at 10.45 am.

In her statement, Fiza reiterated the charges of rape, cheating, hurting religious sentiments, defamation and criminal intimidation and alleged that she was “betrayed, physically used, blackmailed, intimidated and ditched” under the garb of “religion and marriage” by Chand.

Fiza also furnished a copy of her marriage certificate as evidence in her support.

Speaking to Newsline over phone, she said: “Though I was not supposed to be called for joining investigation without registration of an FIR, which was mandatory as per the apex court’s guidelines, but still I complied with the police notice to leave no reason for inaction on my complaint.”

Alleging that the police were “shielding” Chand under “political pressure and influence”, Fiza accused the Mohali police of “double standards”.

“While I was booked for attempt to suicide instantly, no action was taken on my written criminal complaint against Chand,” she rued.

While Chand wrote to the SSP late on Friday evening that he is in the UK and will join probe in April, the SP said complete transparency and fairness will be ensured in the investigation by the police.
