It’s a 189-year old tradition which the city can ill-afford to lose. Winter is not the same without the annual flowers show of the Agri-horticultural Society of India, at Alipore.

Dahlias and Roses vie for attention among carefully landscaped gardens in this makeshift fairlyland.

The flower show attracts participation from faraway organizations like the Municipal Corporation of Kalyani and Kalimpong Horticultural Society.

This year’s attractions including orchids from Kalimpong, a special cactus named Pachypodian Namaquinum taken care by local body, Aamra Sabaai (seedling of this was imported from Bangkok).

Various kinds of tropical and temperate vegetables are also exhibited by the growers in the competition. The tropical and temperate fruits exhibited for the competition also delight the visitors. The floral decorations, Indian and Japanese flower arrangements, vegetable carving, flower rangoli, and bonsai are the major attractions during the show days.
